The Village of Our Sustainable Futures

When this Village Vision all began some years ago,..when I had ONE follower (my Mom) and a dream still taking form in my Heart,..well, it seemed I was all alone in my thinking.
 Not ANYMORE.
Everywhere I turn online I come across another application of this kind of thinking.
Finally!!
And what IS this thinking? It is cellular. It is also fractal. It is also sustainable. It is also biomimicry. In fact, humans have a knack for calling it lots of things with fancy names,..some of which I am still becoming familiar with. Makes me laugh a little, but even I, might not attend a show with no name..
I am uncertain if I have exactly detailed my personal schematic regarding the design for the first village i'd like to help build, so I will attempt my best to do so now.

The Village that I envision is a Spiral. The Spiral is divided equitably by pie cuts. The algorithm flowing around the spiral follows as such: Small Businesses, Dwellings, Greenhouses/Ag, Dwellings, Small Businesses, Dwellings, Greenhouses/Ag.

The basis of this algorithm is equal access. From each side of the Dwelling sectors, there are Business sectors to one side, and Food access to the other. This saves time, travel, fuel, and families from being so far apart so much of the day just accessing resources.
Now, in the Center of the village we place our well. This allows for equal access to water, as the aquifer will follow the spiral out to its furthest edge, passing each dwelling, business and agricultural area along its way.
I have seen that in India they are placing solar arrays over their canal systems, effectively cooling and reducing evaporation of the water, whilst doubling the functional use of space. If one also had any sort of aquaponics system in play, this would also protect the water inhabitants from bird predation until harvest.
The choice to have agriculture all around is an exciting future I'd love to see more of. From aquaponic canals growing greens that help clean the water, to cob and earthen rammed homes with rooftop gardens, to orchard trees throughout the walking paths and extra spaces.

It would be easy to divide up space equitably. If we are giving people many of the resources they need close at hand and in a non-destructive way(i.e free ag, no driving) this in turn frees their minds to focus better on life. Enjoying family and friends, and in that enjoyment, naturally wanting to explore how to support each other in greater ways. Altruism is a side-effect of this algorithm. I will next get my sketches together and add them to this post as I am able. Thank you for your interest in our shared equitable futures!

End Homelessness. End Lifelessness too..

The Village and local community recognition is a symbolic return of sorts.
A return to natural self-hood and sustenance.
Truly, I see people walking around this world,..identities held in the air like helium balloons..precariously,on little strings, like leashes held by others. (Its ALmost like their identities hinge on where they work and what they wear to do it..) They spend so little time relaxing or gardening with their family..they spend so little of their lifes identifying themselves IN their own lives..and when the work goes away or is lost? No time for life then, either, somehow..just searching for more of the same, but,.. I digress.

What does The Village offer THEM?..or us?
If we fall, it can catch us.
If THEY want to fly, they AND we can test out wings here...try strengths here. True fortitude!.. ..within and without!
Things will grow well in The Village. All things. People..plants,..relationships,..spiritual connections to the life lead..all bloom in places such as this Village I envision!MANY of them in fact!

Making love-enriched selves.. and food.. and ideas.. and healed-hearts and soaring-minds and many, many many better ways forward!

Aside from being the blueprint for sustainability, The CSA Village model provides every being within it's circle of activity, a chance to excel at self-hood. A chance to be the best being one can be! (A chance to grow, figuratively and literally too.)

On the one side,..Professionals looking to expand their wealth of knowledge can volunteer as Teachers, learning to give and teach in new and creative ways. They are opened and healed and propelled forward in this aspect.

The damaged can learn to heal and re-discover their greatness, in a garden, where greatness is always bound to grow, if tended with love.*its the kind of promise no man can argue*

And Love and respect will be the Standard in such a Golden-Rule-type Village!

I see opportunities in every scratch-made setting for greatness! Not to mention a beautiful way to begin replacing the things we buy from overseas,..with one of a kind treasures closer to home!
But.. greatness shows itself in not only production of goods,..but refinement of spirit. The unfolding of the beautiful creative self..
There is a chance to fill in the emptiness and quiet-times with creative endeavors and "making". A chance to show what you know or are learning..
Everyone grows food,..yes,..but after the daily tending is done, there is time for expressing the energy that still stirs inside!.. In music, art, craft-for-pleasure/fun and trade..

A million ways to find the intangible-nearly spiritual-reward in BEing. *very simply, in fact*

A million chances to contribute to one's community and earn the rights of true honor. If holding down most normal, societal cog-wheel-jobs is honorable,..but unsatisfying, then why not refocus that well intentioned energy, closer where the people you love can see and more fully appreciate the fruits of one's labors..honor them.
Feeding people is pretty darned honorable if you ask me!
And honor,..it is something hard to find, or to be recognized, as HAVING, "out there" in that "world".
~*~
The truth is,..we are where we work, to some respect..and if we find ourselves unemployed by "the world"..we are rather at a loss..maybe even viewing ourselves as somehow without respect INSTANTANEOUSLY!(Which is not true.)No,.. If true respect and honor are earned over a lifetime, how can they possibly be lost by losing a job in a day?
Many find themselves without homes or a sense of purpose or identity very quickly in this "world" of business. Some have families to suppport too..public schools to keep their kids in attendance at.. where do they go? What will they do? In no time short,..without the access to washing facilities and the heaviness of  despair weighing in their possibility-realm, the options become less, and inside of a very real world,..they begin to fade into a limbo of hopelessness, or misunderstanding.
"The World" begins judging them,...deciding by the dirt on their clothes whether or not they deserve that dollar...

A man walking by, still able to identify himself inside of his job, inside of his "club"..inside of a life that connects dots to other dots..this man now thinks back to adages of philosophy he once heard when he was daydreaming in class..something along the lines of karma,..he can't recall completely,..but is assured with those notions,..to walk by unashamed(somehow) by his lack of care.

Do we REALLY all "get what we have coming"..? For that man's sake,..I hope thats not true. Because if thats true, we're ALL in a World of trouble. The only difference between these two beings? A layer of earth.. and a world of hurt. The cleaner of the two?Hmmmm..is that the "clean" that shines from withIN or somewhere else?..or does that kind of clean shine at all? And what ON?And what FOR?

I find this subtle, though monumentally important difference in the self's recognition of "shine"...what some call "ego"..what others regard as "honor".

So,..to re-instill honor in our world that cannot hand it out. We re-instill a system by which honor is a beautiful by-product..A Village System.

When I originally envisioned The Village Solution or system of doing things, it was proposed to myself in my own mind as both a  "fix" to the problem many families face when deciding to eat and live more in tune with the seasons and earth, and also a good fit for sustainable food-sourcing for Cities far and wide; I am again getting back to the roots of this idea,..ENDING HOMELESSNESS!!

I am talking taking up empty City lots across the country and filling them with small, well planned Community Supported Agricultural Communities. Initially assembled with portable, multifunctional yurts(you know, the kind you rent at the campgound, if you're really lucky and plan way in advance)..and eventually,..a beautiful, sustainable, handcrafted Village Center,..a jewel crown to any town!
A place where the music flows freely,..where the bees and birds and creatures tiny, and small have a safe haven. And a Place where the Men, Women and children that run the market stands and street vending food fair (that was grown 6 feet away, and picked that day also by them)..that those people,..you don't know where they were before,..but as they give the richness of life's essence out to "the world"..you become immensely grateful they are where they are now. A place where we can come to honor this Earth we share with them..and them as well. They will be our healers,..bridging the gap between "the worlds" through an extension of Eden's Healing garden and wholesome ways.

I mean, how many empty blocks are MAYBE eventually turned into community gardens? That's great! That serves ONE purpose, but,..what if we could think one step further, serve MORE?.. and actually MAN these plots with people to keep things going and growing right! (And if those badly needed workers and tenders just happened to need work and homes?Perfect!)
Make homes and something positive for all! Something badly needed, mutually appreciated..equally beautiful. Every town could have a Village (or MANY Villages, like mini-havens of goodness) there, accessible by all , like a healing heart-center, within its boundaries!

We could easily begin enriching life from within at the very roots it grows forth either well or un-well FROM! Blossoming outward, spreading it's positive message of abundance and healing in scrolls of fresh eggs, herbs, vegetables and scripts of local-honey and candles and love-notes of hand-thrown ceramics and on-site blown glass treasures! And classes could be offered in the hearth-center, where a meal can also be earned and found, any time of day.

Because, after-all, EVERYONE needs and deserves a place to call home,..likewise, EVERYONE needs locally grown and sourced foods and goods! And as we implement this knowledge into a useful system and plan, (The CSA Village-System),.. as we excell at this mutual tasking, the foundations for a path of honor are placed on the right path ahead as well!..For ALL~

Heal World with Villages and Gardens. Begin in the home and yard. (CHECK!) :D

I hear reports on NPR. Morning blah, blah, blah. (That's bad right? Makes me look like I don't care?) ~sighs~ That is frustrating. And as a person, I  DO CARE! (Bunches and bunches til it hurts a bit.) But,..somehow the natural feeling that strikes me, is that I could really care less about how many hard goods were sold more or less nationwide so sayeth some firm, (sponsored by Almighty-KNOWS-who). "They" keep telling me things,..but less and less about what concerns ME! What I have a hand in!
No,..I listen to know if my friends abroad are okay, and if neighbors are planting corn early this year! That is ACTUALLY amongst my daily and now-type concerns.( Or if they have any feelings on hail to come,..or how they keep their cat out of the roses! Ha! )
The TRUTH is that Local-life is everything! I care about Our World, and think it would have less problems with more gardens and more people gardenING! And..that's WHY I am planting a Garden! I care if there is war-mongering around Our planet,..that I care about an awful LOT,..but partially, aside from the atrocity of the "idea" and it's obvious murderous consequences,.. it is because it sets out-of-balance the rhythm of life, the cycles of growing, and the stewardship of gardening Eden! And Gardening Eden is our Greatest Teacher and Healer. (Everywhere!)So,..enough with saber-rattling already! Where's everyone's Victory garden like I hear tale of from times past? This is War now! A BATTLE for independent right of SELF-AWAKENING, to do better, not worse. NOW that means Victory of Independance of the chaos that's handed out as a solution. You know the solution. If you can't rely on anyone else,..Do It Your Self! Victory Gardens of Yore may have been encouraged by the Gov of Yore,..but that just isn't what we are dealing with anymore. So,..we have to encourage each other I think! On a VERY neighbor to neighbor, friend to friend level. Its just GOT be done locally! Can  I hear it again??
 (You may shout here:"Locally!!" )
EVERYTHING possible! (And A LOT is Possible these days to get locally!)
Banking,..vegetable buying,..eggs,..meat,..milk, cheese, sprouts, herbs, homeopathy, etc! And it is easy to use local shops for your car and eat at local eateries,..especially ones that support LOCAL Agriculture and distributors, like Cafe DeCamp here in Billings, Montana! So RAD. And SUPER yummy too! With DANK local-yum beers and wine! Places like that just go to show how things CAN be thoughtfully, locally done!
Start a grocery co-op in your neighborhood to get what you need closer TO you! Change Zoning laws to support REAL LIFE commerce everywhere! Where people sew and knit and make  and create for each other! Where we seek out skilled craftsmen and women amongst us whom are masters in many a lost (but needed) skill and Art. Wake UP to your neighborhood,..and if it is asleep,..FIX IT! Wake it with Gardening bustle and smiles first maybe.(Always best to awaken to Love's ways!) Then, build on that. I Plan on gardening in containers over all of my grass this year. I'll be writing a letter to my neighbors explaining that I am willing to share tomatoes and corn, zucchini and green beans.(Maybe beets and greens too..) ;D

Part of the Solution.(there IS one...btw)

Becoming a part of the solution while withdrawing as an extra suction upon a broken and collapsing system.

That's what I want.
That's what I envision.
THAT is what seems possible.

So,..how to make harmonic-cohesion from something that has over-grown its own britches UN-apologetically?

Its all for LIFE after all,..isn't it?
We DO the things we do,..to LIVE. Don't we?

Well, I believe the answer is :
1.yes
2.not-all-the-way and,..
3.AND for-more.
(Let me elaborate.)

We do things to "Live". But,..lets change that word to "Survive", and see where it takes us.
For when we use the word "survive", pieces of our "happy" existences begin to fall away. Shiny, good smelling, pretty pieces...but,..lets not "go there" quite yet.

Ahem,..doin' the doin.
Living the life,..stepping into shoes of yore,
..the very ones my Father wore..wait,..AM I doing what I do to survive at least, PARTIALLY because I THINK I am supposed to,..because someone ahead of me did it that way and if I do it  DIFFERENTLY,..I am disrespectful..un-worthy,..foolish,..wait,wait,wait,..how did we get so far from survival? Um,...okay,..back the TRUCK up.

The way to do a thing,..is the way to do a thing.
Right?
Its the way its been done since,.."i don't know when"..... that's good enough! If its NOT somehow You are insulting everyone that came before me! Aren't You? Is there a thought beyond the offense reaction? There is.

TIME for critical-thinking.

WHY??????????!!!!I'm so glad you asked! :)
Because things have gotten critical, and the reasons are extremely address-able and based on areas of realization that we ALL need to work through! How do I know? Beacause if IT were figured-out by now.. by enough of us that were sharing what they've learned, I wouldn't still wonder whats in my food,..who's on my street and what tomorrow holds.
If things were fixed we'd ALL know those things. The unknowns that plague would be gone. I'd be growing my OWN food,..know my neighborhood as a Familial Village,..and tomorrow would be fine, because we each have our needs taken care of locally, safely, in the spirit of betterment and community. I wouldn't wonder what "they" were going to do about "it". Because "they" would have become "us". An we would have addressed our own problems in a format that a person can wrap their heads around. All we have to do,..is take a different look at what we've already got, and "use" it in a positive, community-oriented, care-for-your-neighbor kind of way!

It starts simply by looking at why we do the things we do. Why DO we create the kinds of toxic and egregious problems on this Earth still? Don't we know better? YES. But its just so DARNED easy to NOT do better. We OURSELVES have created a World of Pitfalls and Poisons to test our own wits by you see. And we let the poison spill til everyone knows what poison is and decides against making it anymore..decides they can make something better, and its okay that what came before doesn't work now or serve the future enough to keep in-use.We OURSELVES have the answers to solve the problems we have created.
This World?..
A spirit "game" course, or obstacle-course to grow spirits strong and knit them together by.
A mountain of impossibility to test wings upon!
And now?
Its time  to REALIZE why we have created the things that we have,..and take the course down!

To put the Eden back.
And yes,...We CAN do it.

WE ARE smart enough when we want to be.. when we have reason to BE.
Yes, ITs time to want to do things for better reasons than just to fill shoes. To BE for more reasons than to look like something.
Because, If its NOT a part of the Solution right now, it IS a part of the Problem!
Yes YOU.
And YES ME TOO!
Deal with the "guilt", or realization of having not seen it in a way that could be talked about until now,..get over it and get under this mountain of what is not-working-forever, with the rest of us, and HEAVE it off before it crushes us ALL!

Don't just survive.
Don't just carry a torch.
Don't just get mad or too anxious about the truths to look at them like a big-kid.
DO be a big-kid,..but ALSO,..change wht you think that might encompass.
Being a big-kid is NOT about driving fancy things or owning fancy things or keeping fancy things around. Its not about impressing people, being popular or looking cool. Being a big-kid is about helping the little-kids be big-kids too.

All of them all around the World.

Being a Mentor when the World needs Mentors.
Being an innocent with able mind and hands for helping when help is needed.
And its NEEDED.
Right now.
Maybe whats being done around the World doesn't really need to be done?..to  ACTUALLY make Life happen,..or true survival happen..maybe whats being done around the World that hurts is all a chance for each of us to step-up to BOTH the Global AND Local stage all at once,..by claiming simplicity  and Love in our own lives and our acts.
Yes, by also moving beyond the normal paradigm paradox-thought patterns that are generally polarized and limited.
Yes,..build a local community garden,..but ALSO be aware of the World stage,..and the brethren un-met in jungles, plains and mountains that share your path of Life and spirit-growth.
They are like you.
Living, loving, being all they can be.
Thats what we're doing here,...right?????
RIGHT!
So, GO get 'em Tiger-Angels! RAWR out onto the World with Healing, Helping and a shared realization of this place that could ALL be more Heaven-like if we all tried to make it that way!!

Yes.
People have been hurt.
They have been us and they have been them,..and none of that matters anymore does it?
It does matter, but the healing matters more,..say sorry in words if you've got them,..but DEFINITELY in deeds if you don't. And DEFINITELY in deeds to heal regardless!

Because...
IT is....

Time to move forward.
Time to name your neighborhood and become a part of it's Village potential.
Time to look in on the Elderly down the street.
Time to drive slower,..because LIFE is everywhere.
Time to learn to build "new" out of "old".
Time to buck the linear-box!
Time to take responsibility for what is ours to LOVE, not to destroy and "utilize" for profits to buy things that don't satisfy.
Time to feel again,..not anesthetize the situation until it gets blurry enough to write-off or ignore. Guess what,..the World has gotten dirty  and hurty enough to need more help that It's getting.

TIME for YOU?
Yes,...there's all-ways time for You.
There's always time to do better as long as you are breathing.
I swear it.

Until then,... Love to you from me! ..more Village-thinking later~ may you empower your day with RADICAL forward motion until then~xo

when yesterday ended..(cont).Ch.3:

At first,..the immediate fluxual differances seemed a real chaotic mess. Transportation,..for a time,..meant foot-powered only. In the deep energy-feild of the cities of then,..much technological breakthru was missed. In an ever more layered intention-grid,..solutions came and went.Inventions found their way to the countryside where folks were willing to listen to the sound of the future thru the words of many from the past. And though we had posseessed various means of zero-point energy by that time..and our farm trucks and all had long ago been converted to hydrogen or alternative-engine coil designs..our friends in the Big Places hadn't yet the time or hearing to learn yet. And there were hard times in part, due to this lack of what to us,..had become basic information.
There were transportation standstills. People whom found themselves far from home when the change occurred,..had long learning roads ahead of them.(People began to stay closer to home,..in general at that time i believe..)
And people went hungry in many places. Trains didn't bring coastal goods inland,..nor most trucks and docks all over were paralyzed by the idea of union-free labor."Free" labor ,in general, was a frowned upon, but eventual tool in digging the first trenches in the war against ego.
The war against self.
That was the only thing left to fight against.

Payed militias from the fertile Crescent to the streets of London dropped their weapons and left for home too. (No pay,..no play.)Wars all over just ended.Who and how would they be funded now?The reasons for fighting, themselves,..had never actually been enough. Not to mention,..now that there was no money,..people were needed home in the feild and garden to "make" what before they had purchased.
Areas though,..that could not even agriculturally sustain a people, were left as ghost-towns..what we now call the "Sleepers Lands". The places where they used to live while asleep at their own consciessnesses. When people awoke, the argument to stay in unsustainable places was abandoned. Business was simply not business as usual anymore.
~*~
Thankfully, not too many were lost, before sanity and calm began to grow and flourish where fear and anger had spread. Foods and staple goods were distributed and re-distributed by necessity.Trade and barter were applied aptly by those with the means. Basic kindness and earnest appreciation for gifts as they changed hands though,..was a welcome replacement for many a handful of coins in the past. The old mindset of money grew into loosely structured levels of need and appreciation in turn. Items in markets the land over began to show worth placements in numbers of hours spent making and bringing said item into manifested being. The seller would state what he or she was looking for in return,..whether that be exchanged, worked hours,..or similarly-hour-worthy goods.A 15 hour pair of handtooled leather shoes might be seen to be exchanged for three woolen hats and some good, hardy seed.
Yes,..Many things besides cities were abandoned in this time of flux. One I cannot leave out is how the people learned to abandon the most basic dysfunctional and destructive mechanisms of ego, which had rather inadvertantly lead many a well-intentioned-soul down the path made of other people's backs.
It was a time of many painful realizations. For those whom had allowed money, and the push to keep it nearly destroy everything...there was much sorrow.when they learned what EVERYTHING entailed,..when they realized that their narrow and angry, frightened ways had nearly destroyed consciessness itself...those with nothing took to comforting those whom had ctreated the nothingness. They had been trading in things unknown and unforeseen. trading in commodoties they were ultimately unaware of affecting.
Money,..for consciessness.
Prestige for knowledge.
In essence,..the awareness of Eternity for the softly padded(yes, the locked kind..)room of the fattened and fatteneing Ego. The basic argument for keeping Ego as a protective sheild was also eventually left behind in the funny-things-we-used-to have/do-file. Communication came forward as the tool of merit and choice.Equinimity in trade and exchange took center stage for a good long while until established trade paths and relationships were grown strong and viable between local societies. Transparent, but evident well-intentioned works were quickly and industriously implememnted in the coming days..even though money was long gone.

When Yesterday ended..(cont) Chapter 2. A Story, by Kat Sol.

When it came to being okay,..we knew that we ourselves were, and had been for awhile now. They, living in the once-moneyed-society would be okay too. But, a fast-paced, luge-style, learning curve would be corkscrewing directly ahead of our still urban-bound brethren.
We wondered through-out our relatively small agricultural and artistically inclined community-valley, whether we might not soon see some of the effects of the missing-money-syndrome,..that had left "the change" behind. This wave of awakening would surely soon be ebbing on our reality's shore.
~*~
The Community Fire was raised at the old Sacred Spring earlier than the coming full moon. It was a-rage with abundant fuel and the dancing flame-light of that pyre lit every edge and rock-lined corner of our valley in it's illuminating invitation. The Heartbeat Drum echoed out in thundering pulses,..that resonated within the hearts of the valley dwellers,..bringing them to rest at the Great Circle's edge. They came in unison,..to gather, to listen,..to eat,..to contemplate,..to speak,..to offer what ever one might have for whatever questions were now at hand.

The golden glow burned hot and high and true into the falling twilight. As the flames began to lower their towering forms,..and the growing mountain of coals were re-arranged for the meal, the people settled in to the Earthen amphitheatre. Humming low to themselves in various harmonies of resonant peace,..in earnest and open tuned, helpful, contemplation they ate thankfully, quietly.

Words in fact,..were not spoken for many hours. The food was quitely prepared and eaten,..and then the little ones piled under the Good Tree with the traveling animals and dogs..while the Circle was tightened and the Elders began to begin the real business.

There,..in the moon-less ink of the newest ever of Night's..the elders drew their shared vision.
...Out of each-other's open and bon-fire-like radiating hearts, with a quiet and dedicated intent.
...With positive sight and all-encompassing-Love and forward reaching motion..they moved many things into place.

These meetings were difficult to describe or explain to an outside living visitor. They began after hours of seemingly unbendable silence,..and then broke like Dawn into lively, open commentary and active debate. The shared thought-time and sentance finishing happened in great, rhythmic waves of oration, sprinkled brightly with bursts of price-less insight offerings by all present. The meeting melded into "the happening"..that in consideration and thought-engeneering-style crossed multiple spans of time, meaning, and dimensions of each.

Though the Circle of Elders on that Heaven-lit night did indeed cover and reach thru the many dimensions,..they were not there to get the money back.
They were there to finally move the Now into the present of tomorrow.( And, I am,..in my own singularly insignificant way, happy to say that I attended, was in that movement,..a drop in that forward wave.)
For the items discussed and the possibilities presented that star-lit and ember-warmed eve would no less than shape every coming Tomorrow into what we recognize as Today's Now.

When Yesterday ended and tomorrow's Now began..A story by Kat Sol

That day we awoke un-remarkably.There were yawns and smiles and the heating of water and the planning of chores to tag-team on to get to maybe an early day and a swim down by the creek.
No,..nothing initially in our little local cosmos to show any evidence in that day's energetic make-up.No signs that this was the first New Day.(For us all.)

You see,..in a domino-effect-with-a-cause-unvengant,..rolling across the Globe that night was "the change".

(One might say,.."There became one less ingrediant in the Planetary-soup." )

For inter/extra-dimensional-Angel-Bandits (of many a mercy) had come a-riding that ultra-dimensional ether-wave of Night,..surfing on through, removing  ALL cash and coin as they rode on. And in a roar of that crashing wave of awakening,..the world awoke to NO MONEY at'all.
Nope.
 None.
All the monetary markers gone.

* POOF*

Banks sat unopened in terror and embarresment. Fort-knocks sat and held tight to some of the cleanest air that side of the mississip,..but not a boullion cube remained within it's heavy, paradigm entrapping doors. Piggy, fishy, and all number of other animal-banks around this spinning orb,..sat without a tinkitty-tink in their bellies.Nothing more than bits of lint and carcasses of the lost bug and spider space-explorers within their hopeful shells.
It was simply just all gone.

We came to hear of the missing-money-syndrome from a near-by farmer and neighbor. They, ourselves, and a couple of handfulls of simple living country folk had been subsisting in this little valley without money, by sheer necessity for a good number of years by this "time".And, though "the change" was real news, it was more truly a matter of realizing the effects, here,..where their reach would be loose and slow-in-the-coming. No, we didn't have what they had lost,..but,we were connected to the money-less and also the path ahead, indelibly.

Chapter:2 ~

In an ever more layered intention-grid,..solutions came and went.Inventions found their way to the countryside where folks were willing to listen to the sound of the future thru the words of many from the past. And though we had possessed various means of zero-point energy by that time..and our farm trucks and all had long ago been converted to hydrogen or alternative-engine coil designs..our friends in the Big Places hadn't yet the time or hearing to learn yet.

Not to mention,..now that there was no money,..people were needed home in the field and garden to "make" what before they had purchased.
Areas though,..that could not even agriculturally sustain a people, were left as ghost-towns..what we now call the "Sleepers Lands". The places where they used to live while asleep at their own consciousnesses.
The seller would state what he or she was looking for in return,..whether that be exchanged, worked hours,..or similarly-hour-worthy goods.A 15 hour pair of hand-tooled leather shoes might be seen to be exchanged for three woolen hats and some good, hardy seed.
Yes,..Many things besides cities were abandoned in this time of flux. One I cannot leave out is how the people learned to abandon the most basic dysfunctional and destructive mechanisms of ego, which had rather inadvertently lead many a well-intentioned-soul down the path made of other people's backs.
It was a time of many painful realizations. For those whom had allowed money, and the push to keep it nearly destroy everything...there was much sorrow.when they learned what EVERYTHING entailed,..when they realized that their narrow and angry, frightened ways had nearly destroyed consciousness itself...those with nothing took to comforting those whom had created the nothingness. They had been trading in things unknown and unforeseen. trading in commodities they were ultimately unaware of affecting.
Money,.. for consciousness.
Prestige,.. for knowledge.
In essence,..the awareness of Eternity for the softly padded(yes, the locked kind..)room of the fattened and fattening Ego. The basic argument for keeping Ego as a protective shield was also eventually left behind in the funny-things-we-used-to have/do-file. Communication came forward as the tool of merit and choice.Equanimity in trade and exchange took center stage for a good long while until established trade paths and relationships were grown strong and viable between local societies. Transparent, but evident well-intentioned works were quickly and industriously implemented in the coming days..even though money was long gone.

"Imagine there's no Country"..is that what John said?

"Imagine there's no Country,..its easy if you try.."
Bless your dear heart, John Lennon, my friend and kin in Spirit!
At 5:00pm..The government stopped being able to afford its own appetites.(when written,..)
The complete transparency of the un-sustainable nature to the governing ways at large was marked by a time on the clock of history.
(I am maybe kinda sorta going to use this oppertunity to remind everyone of the Village idea...right about ...NOW.)
..And of it's greater implications.
Maybe,..today,..the most important implication to me,..being a plan and way of viewing reality "at large" through a small scale lens that is handle-able and implementable instantaneously in many ways..anywhere!The blue-print for a Sustainable Village could be printed out in grids, cities and nations-wide!
You see,..we the people don't really NEED HUGE governing bodies to help us to function,..when many of us are functioning just fine without the you-know-who leeching off of our productivity. My taxes aparently were not enough to keep the ol' boat afloat..But, ahem,..I digress here,..let me get back to this far-reaching print from the gentle touch of sustainability and calm. :)
What if.....every neighborhood were re-imagined as a functioning Village?
What if the central house became the Community house, energy and water house..and,..following a Fibonacci-style spiral outward,..a Village Spiral  of care were implemented?
If energy, food and water usage were seen and dealt with in small Village-style fashion,...where would be the emergency? We would be okay..
What if these imaginarily re-envisioned neighborhood Villages each grew food instead of lawns?
What if they all collected their own rain-water and had wells instead of community/contaminated water sources?
What if .....no legislation stopped them, and they had backyard livestock that was all very sustainably-small?i.e..rabbits..mini-goats for milk,..little bantam chickens and the like for eggs etc..
What if neighborhoods began planting fruit trees instead of NOT food trees? Almonds where Almonds grow,..Hazelnuts where Hazelnuts grow..etc,..Plums,pears, apricots, walnuts, peaches,..shall i go on?
Really,..Lets not be SO lazy and rely on a very tired and obviously exhausted "leadership" to do everything for us,..that I am betting we could do ourselves!I mean,..if we HAVE to,..then,..there IS a way!If they can't function,..WE CAN still!

We've just got to see the smaller microcosm (the local neighborhood and neighbors)..and address IT../them.
If we ALL take care of our locally established Villages,..we'll be okay. :)
Buy seeds and Gardening stuff if you haven't already.
Buy land if you can. Get dirt, friends and hope all in a bunch and be okay!
Not a Revolution,..just a solution. Be well! Take care of your neighbor and be a friend!
Grow Love.
Grow community,..
Grow stronger in smaller, realizable groups,..peacefully intent on sustainability and Loving intent..wherever that might be. Wherever you ARE!:)

To begin The Village...

I believe a good beginning for my OWN first Village will have to start with a barter/trade aggreement for use of land.(And the Yurt too if I can manage it!)
I agree to improve upon someones land with my first yurt,..and then build a cob home structure that I will live in, with my Family for an agreed upon number of years,(2 or so maybe)..and when we leave,..the Landowner will have a nice little developed, and producible area that they may forever more make use of, or move into!
I imagine the first bit of my Community will really be just my family,..in a Yurt!..gardening and building a Cob Home!
We will develop square-foot garden beds and dwarf-fruit-tree-orchards if the space is available,..in addition to any poultry or goats  allowable on the land.
We agree to share produce, eggs,..etc..and help care for and tend to said Farmer a little as well! We're all in this together!Give us a little piece of land with water on it,..or the right to drill for a well...and we will better ourselves, the land, the Landowners Life,..and the local community too!
We will be clean, mathematical, thoughtful and well organized!
But,..we need land that we can add people too as well!(No more than 25 to begin the first Village.)
As funds for sold products are generated,..wind, solar , and perhaps if possible, micro-hydro power collecting mechanisms will be added to any structures or tap-able areas possible,..again, benefiting the owner of said Land,..enabling THEM also to get "off of the grid" with us!
{This is an initial plan...I will be adding to, amending and working on ! :D)
If you know of someone,..please share this with them! Thank-you!

When a City cannot sustain it's People,..People learn to sustain themselves!

A lot of Global factors are beginning to come into play regarding this idea of people being safer in the long run,(all around) on a locally produced, and sustainable level.
With talk of oil prices surging ,which are always coupled with the possibility of petroleum-based-fertilizer shortages,we get in the end food shortages too!Now,..if you want this situation to be a "those poor guys "type of thing,(MEANING it doesn't effect you),or a "What can I do to help I wonder?" kinda thing,..then you must certainly have your backyard garden plotted and/or your community garden well planned and underway!Because,..lets face it..if the trucks of food stop coming to the store,..that food is going to have to come from SOMEWHERE isn't it?
Enter Community Gardening,
Backyard Gardening,
and CSA's (or Community Supported Agriculture) grow efforts!
Enter the Urban Homestead!

A locally sustainable and implementable "plug" in a fragile food "system"!Not much of a system,..if the way that it "works" actually inevitably fails due to its shortcomings!

Though my vision began as a plan-of-good for self-bettering folk, whom perhaps also don't want to harm the environment, and enjoy a simpler existence with perhaps more priceless rewards..it is quickly becoming a plan-of-action to save a peoples ability to sustain at all!
The commercial model of food production leaves a lot to be desired in sustainability, believe it or not!
There appears to be an obvious price to pay for reaping heavy rewards(i.e..Our Modern Grocery store Cornucopia) in disproportionate ways out of our lands the way we do, via most commercial farming efforts and operations. We're quite simply stripping, killing and otherwise ruining the topsoil and nutrient rich layer of much of our once easily sustainable Earth!

Here is what I am saying,..in order to feed all of "us" the amount of food that "they" anticipate being "needed" to have,..Farmers, Growers and Agricultural Producers "do what they have to do"! They grow in wide, wide swaths of land where the Earth is unable to take a breath of her own in between anywhere ,even! And to cut down on costs for labor, avoiding paying people for doing things like weeding,..producers use lots of chemicals of a variety of colors and
noxious-ness-es,..to kill the weeds, the critters and boost the soil(since most likely, the way they over work,plow,..and abuse the soil,..it'll need a HECKOVA lot of those petroleum "nutrients" won't it now?(Ahem,..Sorry,..I get a little upset-ish about the idiocy of some of the problems that I see at hand,..and,well, I am not about to let my irritation for the problem to anything less than solve it!!) : p

The worst part of the irritation though is that there don't seem to be a lot of people to blame! The people is us!We are our own worst problem! Some are too pre-occupied with the other "important" things in their lives to even remember how to grow their own back-porch tomatoes anymore!
I had no CLUE myself,..until that Summer,..just a few years back!Ha!
And then, after a few raised beds, built with friends, and waaaay more produce than I could eat by myself,..I started seeing the "bigger picture"! The bigger idea was how to solve a big problem like lack of food with such a little solution!..Like, a garden, where grass just sucked water up once and did nothing for me!: p

I took a walk through my neighborhood (which had a lovely alley-way system,..a few backyards with alley-gardens of spinach and zucchini, maybe some raspberries)..and as I walked,.. I imagined what the production of food in a neighborhood my size might be,..if say,..half of everyone's lawn was a vegetable garden,as well as the alley ways. I imagined chicken coops with small colorful exotic hens taking naps,..and running about in between house gardens,....the City began to fade,..I imagined Living again on the land beneith my feet!I wanted to FEEL HER,..Instead of just covering her up!No!It was time for Communing with the Earth and my stronger, wiser self even,..through this simple act of self sustaining!
And by my bounty's overflow??,..I couldn't help that Summer but to meet all of my tomato-loving-neighbors and my lettuce-loving-neighbors,..and my bless-ed zucchini-loving-neighbors as well!(Truly!lol,..the WAY those Zukes yielded was ridiculous!)
And all Summer,..I only ever walked as far as the local co-op Grocer for Dairy items and that glutinous, occasional micro-brew!;)Gas? What gas?I didn't even have a car!Ha!I gardened, worked, played with my son outside, wrote music, sang and otherwise enjoyed a most peaceful season,..mostly in part to my reconnection with the Earth and my own strengths and capabilities in shaping and creating that garden space,..juuuuuust SO!:)

So,..though I believe The Community Supported Ag-Village is how we save ourselves, eventually as a hungry people..I also see it's multi-facted application and how one might apply it willy-flippin-nilly via Personal, Community and CSA Gardens EVERYWHERE!
I mean,..Why have food shortages??..when dirt, water, Love and intentional attention to seed can prevent them?Go BUY SEEDS!And then, save some of the seeds from a couple of choice specimens that you grow for NEXT year!(Seed Savers Exchange is a favorite organization of mine that I highly recommend for all of your back to the Earth, food growing (and related)educational needs!)Look them up on FB,..or Google them!:) Love and Dreams of Growth to you each! More later! :)..Kat Sol

Not for everyone, but all are welcome at The Local Village.

Critical Thinking?

I get a bit,..okay,..A LOT of criticism for this "Village Idea".
And, rightfully so,..for a Million different reasons,..and a Trillion items I may not have thought of yet,..or at the very least, not had the opportunity to detail.;)
Somehow,..this makes me think that I must be going the right way...or no-one would follow what I am saying at ALL!

What might a Village offer the Outside World?

With this said,.. I would like to speak today a bit about what Village Life might offer,..daily, on Week-ends, during Festivals, Harvesting Times, Seasonal Conferences,..etc..
What I am getting at is an extra option to the ones we currently are offered on this Planet...i.e..(Town, City, Metropolis, Megalopolis,..etc..for meeting, doing, being, learning, growing,sharing..)
A simple place to be if you want to be. Or an easygoing place to visit when you'd like to. A publicly accessible Social Location,..just smaller than a town,..and bigger than an encampment. ;)
Complete with a Mercantile, Clinic, School, Post-Office, Cafe, Library,Recording Studios, Art Museum, Museum of Local History, Amphitheater, etc,..(except for on a smaller scale,..to more efficiently serve both the People that inhabit the space,..and the space itself.)
And,...though I DO believe that the current cities in decay will eventually fail due to structural short-sights and simple-shelf-life-tendencies..I also realize that may not happen even in my lifetime.
I am convinced, regardless, that in order to bridge the gap between living as we are now(un-sustainably)into living in harmony with the Earth ,..these Local Villages must be created!  Afterward, they can and will prove to play a vital role in furnishing larger Communities with many of their needs without these Communities having to use fossil-fuels to obtain their items from a-far.
( Reducing what we import,..even from the next state over,..maintains a semi-closed financial-loop and also a chance to re-enliven and re-introduce local, organic, heirloom, boutique, and small, family-farming!)
At a Local Village,..these independent providers of Foods and Home-made and Hand-produces products would find an outlet and way to sell and share their wares, talents, and crops.

Yurts(my structure of choice), could be rented or checked out for Workshops, Performances, Special Sales and Art Events,..amongst other things...like Vacationing in for a Weekend or maybe a Fortnight!:)
No,..everyone doesn't HAVE to live in a Village. And no,..every Village doesn't HAVE to be made of Yurts!ha! But if we build a bunch of them..that ARE,..it will be both economical, and sensible. And I am betting many will be VERY glad we have done so,when we DO!( Thankful even.)

A Local Village: To visit, make use of, and just to know of ,to offer up as an answer for others that could benefit from it's offerings and simplicity of life.
Not for everyone,..but everyone is Welcome! :)

Smaller, closer, manageable: Village Logic 101 ;)

:Backward to go forward, but this time we're bringing the Future with us!

It is often a struggle to keep daily life managed in "Modern Times". What,.. with all of the items of concern upon our personal plates,..not to mention(and maybe we'd all be a bit smilier if I didn't)..the Community plate,..Planet-plate and any and every other thing that you put yourself into, or maybe onto. ;)

Some days it sure does SEEM like my plate is full,..but my LIFE is empty. There is so much going on that I am unable to keep up with, that inevitably,..things, and even people, begin to represent "just another thing" that I've got to "manage" on my plates!(Picture here: roller-skating Tom Robbins-esque Genius-Waitress with the delicate and overwhelmed/abundant pantheon of to-do, to-be, and to-have-plates,.. holding onto what is dear in her Shiva-like arms of many,..in umpteen places at once,..serving the every..though less than aptly, by circumstantial force.)

I don't even WANT all of these plates!Can't I just roller-skate?;p
Wasn't LIFE once simpler?.. and mightn't it have been more fulfilling in ways that we have forgotten or imagine to have risen above? Can't it be again?

(Yeah,...that's rhetorical. We all know it CAN be.)

I believe it is time to  NOW help it be consistently that way!

It's not quite as simple as going back to hunter/gatherer wandering tribes, and beating drums around a fire(though a good Bonfire is well known to enliven and nurture the Souls of any group.)..but, it's also not as complicated as de-coding a genome with nothing but crayons and Lincoln-logs! (Rudimentary,..but also do-able I'm betting.) Re-Envisioning a well-functioning, co-operative daily life, where our intents are expressed honestly, in transparency is needed. To gain that Vision, like crossing life's busy freeway,..we look both ways before attempting. To the past,..and also simultaneously to Future.

With the preserved history we have of Humanity, I am lead to believe that well intentioned peoples of the past survived, nay, THRIVED in well designed small societies for enormous, un-recorded swaths of time. Makes me think of the idea, "no news is good news"..
Maybe we don't hear a heck of a lot about the tiny Villages throughout time that sustained and extended the race, propelling Humanity forward, peacefully into the Future that is Now... I know for a fact though, that we all wouldn't BE here without them.

And I am left wondering at times, if some of the greatest Civilizations of recorded History,..didn't ultimately FAIL due to their unsustainable sizes and intents. No, Rome wasn't built in a day,..but for all it was,..where and what is it NOW? The Planet is frankly littered with empty, unscrupulously abandoned feats of  design; but are they no more than representations of over-active appreciation of Ego and Largess? Will our Cities of today be no more than Stonehenges of tomorrow?

No,..Stonehenge was made of stuff that lasts.;)

But TRULY ,..need we judge ourselves as a race by the Grande size of our constructions?..OR, RATHER by the Grande designs of our ability to accomplish mutually beneficial Dreams, TOGETHER as a PEOPLE?

I see Villages as both, more easily attainable and sustainable Dream-Factories for their inhabitants. ..Dreams of engaging with Life at It's OWN pace,..leaving your plates and maybe skates behind,..and running barefoot into NOW'S possibilities...into who and what we we ACTUALLY are.( Amazing insightful creatures with the ability to create a better Reality!)

Yes!!..We  CAN and WILL redesign the items and ideas that surround us and affect us to serve our goals in a lasting and peaceful image of our unified Dream of Happiness. But,..NOW, we also have at our disposal the technologies of TODAY to more easily support the ideas and theories of YESTERDAY that worked. And creatively we can work into and approach a perfect fusion of Time to reach a better Now WITH. Woven of  the understandings we presently possess in regards to what is healthiest for our Planet AND selves, (i.e.. Agricultural and Resource-gathering practices and distribution,), it should be quite evident that to properly feed and KEEP feeding and caring for a people,..the FOODS and Products need to be grown and/or sourced locally, and cleanly. The bigger the Society,..the bigger the divot it leaves behind.

In a World where communities feed and sustain themselves locally,..PEACE is inevitable.

(more soon..:) )...comments as always appreciated.

City or Village? ...Modern-day Castle or Yurt?

The Modern Metropolis
Sooner or later, when something isn't working one admits(if ADMITTING to someone more than oneself is even NECESSARY)..that,..well,..somethings GOT to change!
This holds also true to our modern-day(but aging) cities.
At some point,..the fundamental structures and engineering feats of our modern-day cities and metropolis will age into a state of un-manage-able decay.
These pipes and wires and cables?..ALL subject to decay. AND all placed in such an "attractive" way (underground)..so as to be rather hard to get BACK at to FIX!Think.."street-up-grade-project"...weeks?months?years?Probably some of each.
But, in essence,..an un-sustainable system,..that will eventually need to be vacated, I believe.Something who's rate of decay is out-running it's people's rate of problem-solving-abilities. (Too intricate and mechanically-complex to be properly addressed for re-structuring or diligent repair as really needed.)
In centuries passed, a Village and/or other smaller community structure served the needs of It's people rather well, it would seem.Yes, there have always been hard times,..bad crops, droughts, floods, wars,..but, I ask you this,..when ANY sort of natural(or other) disaster strikes,..which is easier to care for afterward,.. (PROPERLY, that is)..150 people's needs..OR 150,000 people's needs?

If the proverbial muck hit the fan,..I'd rather have a smaller, closer-knit group of people to care for, and to care for me. Cohesion of a people in a crisis is ALWAYS crucial to survival and management. This is easier to accomplish in smaller numbers, simply put.

The Modern Castle.
Sustainability of structures to maintain daily functioning-life-needs is a real KEY ingredient when it comes to the needs of ANY community. If a tornado comes by...which would you rather re-build? A yurt..or a modern-day castle? (Albeit,..there is an imperative need for planned ways of physical escape from devastation of any kind,..floating refuge,..sub-terrainian refuge,..etc..because we ALL know that homes can be re-built,..but life cannot, once lost.)

I think people are mistaken though, when they think they are protected by their modern day homes. If re-analyzed, I think many might just see today's sprawling-home-steads as  the natural-disaster-traps they ARE! A home is safest, to ME,..when it is easily opened and cleaned, and also easily EXIT-able!
Yurts are perfect! They are inexpensive,(less than $10,000 ea.)..easily produced in a sustainable manner,..take up less resources, both in the short AND long run..i.e..less expensive up-grades and repairs in the long run,..and less EVERYTHING to make! They can be fitted with solar-energy collecting panels,..and are quite attractive, cozy and well-suited to  housing wood-stoves ! And in the event of loss,..there would be SO much less to replace or rebuild!
This isn't Armageddon-speak, people,..this is,..let's-re-build-and-re-fashion-the-face-of-our-societies-in-form-and function-before-we-miss-the-mark! What are YOUR thoughts? Feed-back MUCH appreciated and thankfully received!

Wrinkles,..thank-you. {Why a Village? Reason #3(or maybe #1)}By:Kat Sol.

{A thought on getting older, wrinkles, my Elders, and their role in a Village.}

Bring on the listening.
Bring on the decorations that give me my five minutes to say how I might help..
There on my face, where they're stamped like a backstage pass to see the Rainbow's end..
Where my Elders can see, as I smile, that I am nearing their circle to listen,..and one day speak.
I welcome these fancy little badges of recognition.
And,..I welcome their wearers and appreciators too!
Gather your sacred, wrinkle-gilded unto the Village Hearth!
We build a Village to honor them !!
Because we need a place to keep near and to know our Elders!
Before we lose the chance to glean Knowledge of the Mistakes,
..and the Story of Kindness from them..
And then, we can share in OUR joys and accomplishments also,..to tell and to SHOW OUR
Story of Kindness to them will be part of why we're all there!!
We cannot hope to sustain without the wisdom of time that has been so kind as to do so much of the figuring ahead by it's sheer example of living.
Elders,..you are Welcome.
Namaste`
